Lisa J. Trigg

I am an Advanced Registered Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, with 30+ years experience working with adults with mental health issues in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  I am skilled in psychiatric assessment, treatment planning, evidence-based psychopharmacotherapy and medication management, and interdisciplinary collaborative care. I’m especially skilled in crisis intervention and I use these skills to help my patients avoid crisis through regular assessment and adjustment of treatment plans as indicated by changes in conditions, symptoms, external stressors, etc.

I’ve been a psychiatric attending in inpatient, crisis intervention settings, partial hospital programs, emergency rooms, substance use & dual diagnosis units, inpatient and outpatient geriatric psychiatry, and community mental health centers. I’ve managed the care of patients who have been hospitalized both voluntarily and involuntarily.

I completed my master of nursing degree and my PhD in nursing at the University of Washington.  My graduate studies were supported by National Library of Medicine fellowships in Biomedical and Health Informatics. Thus, in addition to my clinical practice studies, I also learned about all aspects of the design and implementation of clinical information systems in health care settings. I’m a bit of a tech geek, and I’m always looking for new ways to use technology to improve my practice and the care of my patients.  For my doctoral research, I developed a hybrid methodology of critical discourse analysis and corpus linguistics, informed by postmodern, postcolonial theory as well as the work of philosopher Michel Foucault. I studied the many different ways “the patient” is constructed in the texts of Institute of Health policy statements with particular focus how the design and implementation of clinical information systems might increase existing systemic social injustice associated with the problems of uninsurance, and unequal treatment due to racial and ethnic differences.

I am an urban farmer, avid ballroom dancer, fiction writer and poet.  I love music of most kinds and enjoy as many outdoor concerts as I can afford, weather permitting. When there are no in person concerts, I drive fast with the top down and the music blasting, weather permitting. I love to travel and I have many pets, including dogs, cats, and rescued African Grey parrots.

I’d love to hear from you. I try to respond to all inquiries within 24-48 hours, but often on the same day.
